Share your knowledge! Classified, Faculty, and Administrators- We encourage you to consider submitting a Flex Workshop Proposal for 2024-2025’s All-College Flex Days. (Plus, earn double Flex credit for presenting a workshop on an All-College Flex Day!)
FLEX is a unique professional development opportunity where the entire College can come together as a community to learn, connect, and collaborate. Our goal with identifying a Flex Day theme and strand is to provide focus while allowing for variety, creativity, and inclusivity.
2024-2025 Theme & Strand
Humanize
Faculty, Classified Professionals, and Administrators strive to foster an atmosphere of inclusivity and accessibility where individuals feel understood, valued, supported, and connected to the campus community. Acknowledging the unique backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and aspirations of our college community can develop more inclusive and equitable approaches. Let’s humanize together!
We welcome equity-minded workshops that cover key topics such as cultivating empathy, personalized learning, community building, communication, and accessibility. How are you centering the student experience in your work at the college? Share your and/or your department’s practices and tools to inform how we can further connect and support our students. These workshops will aim to provide practical insights and strategies for faculty, classified professionals, and administrators to create equitable, inclusive, and student-centered environments.
The Professional Development Committee (PDC) invites workshop proposals that advance the strand, Institutionalize equity.
Vision Resource Center (VRC)
Since July 1, 2020, along with hundreds of professional development training videos curated for public sector employees and connecting us with colleagues across the state, the Vision Resource Center (VRC) is now also CCSF’s hub for registering and documenting all things FLEX. Theme & Strands - 2023-2024

Weaving a Web of Interconnectedness
-
Strands
Explore the power of interconnectedness and community building. As educators, staff, and administrators, we play an integral role in shaping the paths of our students. By focusing on the importance of access, belonging, and unity, we can create webs of connections that allow our students to expand and (re)connect, rather than getting stuck in the labyrinth of our complex and unfamiliar systems.
Actions have a more significant impact than intent. By changing the discourse and connecting our networks, we can create a supportive and equitable environment where all employees and students feel valued, seen, and heard. Through workshops and discussions, we will strengthen our interconnectedness, communication, and examine and disrupt the systems and structures that hinder ways students access and connect to resources and services that successfully guide them from the start of their journey to completion.
Together, we will develop a holistic and intersectional understanding of student and employee experiences, paving the way for deeper and more robust connections that lead to supportive and equitable paths to success. To achieve the transformation we aspire for our students, we must recognize that all our goals, values, and practices are interdependent, and that we all share the responsibility for equity, diversity and inclusion at CCSF. Join us in our mission to unite, relate, and act as a community to create a brighter future for our students.
Three Flex strands were identified to support these efforts- all goals of CCSF’s Education Master Plan (EMP), which serves as the College’s long-range strategic blueprint for all institutional planning and program development from 2018-2025.
Its goals are equally important for the success of the College in meeting the needs of our students by assisting in further enhancing student achievement and providing additional innovation opportunities for all.
- IMPROVE THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE (ISE): Improving the student experience means humanizing the student experience by evaluating and transforming how we welcome, onboard, and build belonging and connectedness for students. It means taking a student-centered approach to improving awareness of the full range of available resources and services, all while streamlining processes throughout students’ educational journeys. It also means creating inviting and inclusive classroom environments, whether virtual or in person. Improving the student experience requires weaving in professional learning opportunities focused on equity-advancing, culturally competent, and responsive promising practices.
- INSTITUTIONALIZE EQUITY (IE): Institutionalizing equity requires intentional incorporation of evidence-based, anti-racist, gender equality, equity advancing policies and promising practices vital to providing students and employees from disproportionately impacted groups access to equitable support and resources needed to successfully complete their goals. Equity-minded workshops seek to transform our institution by creating professional learning opportunities that promote culturally responsive communication, race-conscious evaluation and design of institutional practices and systems, critical self-reflection, culturally relevant and inclusive pedagogy, and the diversification of recruitment, retention and hiring practices. Please reference the definitions.
- IMPROVE COMMUNICATION (IC): Collaboratively developing norms and expectations to define respectful dialogue fosters a sense of connectedness and belonging. Effectively applying inclusive strategies in different settings among diverse populations emulates clearly defined values of antiracism and respect to navigate the dynamics of power and privilege. Training employees in college-adopted communication systems promotes accurate and supportive information-sharing with students and colleagues. Engaging in active listening which seeks to understand various communication styles, languages, and diverse viewpoints, and creating intentional and dedicated spaces for connection, feedback, assessment, and growth will help to build and sustain healthy communication climates.
